Sulfates strip more than dirt.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are aggressive surfactants. They cleanse efficiently — but they also strip the natural lipids that protect the scalp barrier, accelerate color fade in dyed hair, and can leave fine or curly hair feeling dry, frizzy, and brittle. Long-term daily use is associated with scalp irritation, increased hair breakage, and reduced moisture retention. We replace them with mild plant-derived surfactants that clean without compromising the cuticle.
ParabensWhy no parabens
Parabens are a hormone question.
Parabens (methyl-, propyl-, butyl-, ethyl-paraben) are synthetic preservatives that mimic estrogen in the body. They are absorbed through the skin and scalp, and have been detected in human tissue. While regulators continue to debate the threshold of risk, the EU has restricted several paraben types and banned others outright. Parabens are also linked to scalp irritation, contact dermatitis, and disruption of the scalp microbiome. We use modern, lower-risk preservation systems that keep formulas stable without the endocrine concern.
